North Carolina Road Trip

April 29, 2009

This weekend my boyfriend and I took a trip to N.C. for a wedding. Our destination was Flat Rock, but we stopped along the way in a few small (and not so small) towns. At each stop we sampled the delicious local fair. I’ll share some of our treats with you.

First, we stoped at Davidson campus in Davidson, N.C. My boyfriend went to college there and wanted to show me his old stomping grounds. Just off campus there was an adorable little soda shop where we sipped on root beer floats and orangeade! It felt like an old fashioned malt shop. So good!

Next, it was on to Charlotte for the night. We dined on italian cuisine at an outdoor cafe called Intermezzo. We started with crostini topped with ricotta and lemon zest. Then, we shared an antipasto plate (no meat for me though!) and finished with a delicious veggie pizza.

The last stop was through the sleepy little town of Saluda. If you’re driving through, don’t blink or you might miss it! The downtown is adorable- just a few restaurants and general stores. We stopped for lunch at the Saluda Grade Cafe where we feasted on tuna and chicken salad. It was the BEST tuna salad I have ever eaten (so good that I made my own version of it that I will share soon)! The sandwiches were served with a side of cold, veggie rice and spiced pickles. Delish!
