When I ordered Artisana’s cacao bliss the other month, I received a free sample of chia seeds along with and I had yet to use it!
But, when I kept seeing Heather’s chia oats and, recently, Kath’s try at chia oats, I knew I had to give it a whirl!
All I did was use 1/2 cup of oats, 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt, 1/2 cup of unsweetned almond milk, and a tablespoon of chia seeds and put it in the fridge to meld overnight. When I had them this morning, the chia seeds were gelled and made the perfect accompaniement to my oats! Of course I also added some Mona’s granola, cranberries, almonds, and a few chocolate chips
As has been heard around the blog world, chia seeds are great because they are the HIGHEST known whole-food source of Omega-3 acids, keep the body’s electrolyte balance maintained by retaining moisture, regulate hydration more effeciently, and are a complete source of proten providing all of the essential amino acids! So get your chia seeds and bulk up your breakfast AND smoothies (I will be trying smoothies soon!)

Yes – I’m also curious about where I can get chia seeds around DC. I’m sure my co-op has them… maybe?
I haven’t seen chia seeds around DC, I haven’t looked at Yes Organic Market, so maybe they have them?
Mere: If you can’t find them in any stores, try Iherb.com, amazon.com, or therawfoodworld.com (from which I’ve personally ordered) to buy in bulk. I’m sure that they would freeze fine.
Mmm…chia. Don’t they make your oats more filling. I swear they just expand in my stomach and keep me satiated for hours. LOVE them, and they’re so good for you.
Thanks for the shout-out my friend…lovely breakfast. Love all the color.
P.S. I get my chia seeds at http://www.chiaseedsdirect.com. 4.5 lbs for $35 and free priority mail shipping. Best deal!
Thanks Heather- they are definitely more filling- I didn’t even need my normal mid-morning snack. I will check out that site!
