Coon Dog Day

July 14, 2012 Adventure

Coon Dog Day is real, people. It’s a summer festival in Saluda, NC that revolves entirely around hunting dogs that like the chase raccoons up trees. In other words, it’s one big party. Here are some of my favorites from this year’s Coon Dog Day celebration.       Can’t wait for next year’s celebration!

Blue Gypsy Watering Hole

June 14, 2012 Adventure

The Blue Gypsy Watering Hole was a new discovery for me on our latest trip to Saluda, N.C. We usually frequent the Saluda Grade Cafe and the Purple Onion- a couple of local dives on Main Street. The Blue Gypsy popped up not long ago. It was nice to see a new eatery in town. [...]

Adventures in Austin, Part II

March 2, 2012 Adventure

On Saturday, we brunched at La Condesa, an upbeat bistro situated downtown at the corner of Wannabe and Cool. I now apologize for that outrageously corny joke, but it seriously has that ultra trendy, shiny and new vibe. The inspiration is Cuban/Mexican and servers wear Havana shirts and offer carafes of sparkling water for the [...]

Adventures in Austin, Part I

February 26, 2012 Adventure

This month, I had the pleasure of spending eight days with my sister at her home in Austin, TX. It was an ideal escape from the icy, February winds of DC. I always enjoy my trips to Austin. It’s such a funny little place. As soon as I step off the plane, I’m bombarded with [...]

Honeymoon Part 3: Istanbul

December 17, 2011 Adventure

The third and final leg of our honeymoon was in Istanbul. Though I have a soft spot for London, Istanbul was my favorite part of our trip. The city felt alive and vibrant, with an  undercurrent of mystery. For me, Istanbul feels both old and very new. Just outside our hotel room were two ancient [...]

Honeymoon Part 2: Paris, J’ai faim

December 7, 2011 Adventure

Paris, I’m hungry. That’s how I felt the four days I spent in the city last month while on my honeymoon. I had high hopes for our trip to Paris. What could be more romantic than five luxurious nights in the culinary capital of the world? Feasting on wine, cheese, bread, seafood, and everything in [...]

Honeymoon Part 2: Paris and Versailles

November 24, 2011 Adventure

We arrived in Paris on a bright, sunny Monday afternoon. Our hotel was walking distance from Notre Dame so we strolled over that way, soaking up the sun and gorgeous fall colors.     Later that evening we took a river tour of the Seine. It was a relaxing way to learn about the [...]

Honeymoon Part 1: London and Oxford

November 19, 2011 Adventure

London is quickly becoming one of my favorite places on the planet. I love the crispness in the air, the cheery accents, and the low, gray clouds that often swell overhead. I also adore the culture, people, and stick-to-your-ribs food like scones, fish n chips, and savory pies.  Mmmm. We stepped off the plane and [...]

October 12, 2011 Adventure

Hello, friends. I’m back! And it’s official, I’m married! And so very happy. On Saturday, I married my best friend and partner of nearly four years. He’s my rock and I’m so glad I found him. We spent the entire week prior at the farm getting things ready. There was lots to do in a [...]

North Carolina Weekend

August 22, 2011 Adventure

Welcome to the farm! I write often about spending time in North Carolina on my fiance’s family farm. This weekend, we went down to take care of wedding details (less than two months to go!). Though it wasn’t the typical relaxing, restful weekend we usually enjoy, I did manage to find time to snap a [...]
