Farmer’s market finds

by Jennifer on June 17, 2009

This weekend, I made the trek to Dupont Circle’s Fresh Farm Market. I go to the market every Sunday at 9 am to check out the fresh produce, baked goods, fresh eggs, cheese, and more!

My boyfriend and I decided to walk to Dupont because it was a gorgeous morning and we wanted to get our exercise especially so we could indulge in our favorite desserts at the farmer’s market. It took us about 40 minutes to casually walk down to dupont (and then to walk back) and it was well worth it!

I picked out some fresh blueberries and strawberries (was the last week for strawberries- sad!) and the next day I had this luscious yogurt dessert bowl with my fave TJ’s greek style vanilla yogurt. It is so creamy and delicious and only 130 calories. But, there is a good amount of sugar in this yogurt so I would save it for a dessert!

And, then of course, my boyfriend and I picked up our favorite desserts at the farmer’s market. Although we try not to eat desserts during the week, I don’t mind indulging at the farmer’s market because it only lasts during the summer and life is too short to miss out on a treat every now and then!

The boyfriend had a chocolate creamy pastry which I took a bite of. It had flaky, crispy layers and was filled with flavorful gooey chocolate!

I chose the apple filled donut because I wasn’t in the mood for anything chocolate (which is pretty crazy). This donut was amazing! I love it because it only has a little dusted sugar on top and then the inside is not your typically cream filled donut- it sort of tasted like a denser applesauce.

If you live in DC- you must try the pastries at the fresh farm market as well as all of the other wonderful produce- there is so much to choose from!

I haven’t been to that farmer’s market yet – but it sounds like a good one!

I’m amazed you had the willpower to walk all the way home before enjoying your pastries. I would’ve been leaving a trail of crumbs up Connecticut!

That chocolate pastry looks wonderful! And so does your yogurt and fruit. I’m so glad TJ’s has cheap greek yogurt.

I really need to go to Dupont farmer market, it seems to be the biggest in DC area, isn’t it?

The berries look great. I recently started going to my farmers market for exactly the same reason — fresh berries.
