Chocolate Cherry Brownies

June 20, 2011

Pucker up.

Because cherries are in season. I have quite a thing for these sweet and tangy fruits.

My fridge is ready to burst. I’ve been eating these beauties morning, noon and night-  and in the hours in between. And guess what. Chocolate makes them even better.

Ingredients:  Adapted from All Recipes

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1/2 cup self-rising flour

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup good cherry jam

1/2 cup chopped cherries

1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients and mix well.  Pour into a  greased baking pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

Light as air and super moist.

See what I mean? Chocolate and cherries, does it get any better?

I’ve never made cherry brownies because I never have cherries left. Cherries and chocolate are a great combination!

Yuuuum! We bought a bunch of fruit over the weekend: cherries, nectarines, peaches, plums and canteloupe. It finally feels like summer!! Awesome recipe and tips, Jen! Might need to give this a try…

I LOVE adding fruit to desserts too – because it allows me to cut the added fat and sugar down so much! These look delish!

I just bought a bag of cherries! They are so flavorful right now. I was just copping out of making a cherry dessert because I don’t have a cherry pitter, but you have encouraged me to use the old fashioned method. :)

Jen @ Keepitsimplefoods June 20, 2011 at 11:05 am

No cherry pitter needed! ;) Go for it!

Erin @ Naturally Addicted June 20, 2011 at 8:59 am

I have been eating cherries like it’s my job since they came in season! I love them… I can only imagine how these brownies would taste. I need to get into the kitchen asap and whip some of these babies up!
