Cookies for a Cause

December 9, 2008

What are the holidays without cookies? Cookies are festive, delicious, but can be time consuming to make and large batches are not ideal for singles. Store bought cookies are full of processed ingredients and sugar. Ready to bake sookes are just as bad…or so I thought until I discovered Better Bakes Vanilla Sugar Cookies. I found these ready to bake cookes in the refrigerator section of the grocery store the other night. I was craving sugar cookies, but didn’t want to deal with the hassle of rolling out dough and cutting shapes, so I was delighted by my find. I was instantly attracted to the folk-artsy packaging and the slogans “cookies with a cause” and “soul-cially responsible goodness.” It turns out that the Immaculate Food Co. uses cookie proceeds to support local artists and art outreach programs to the young and old. These cookies are USDA organic and contain organic flour, cane sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla. 2 cookes have 140 calories. There are 24 in a package but you can bake as many as you’d like at a time. I like to bake 2 at at ime and save the rest in the fridge. These cookies bake up in about 10 minutes and are scrumptious. They have slightly crunchy edges with a soft middle. They are the perfect sugar cooke and you can feel really good about eating them!
