larabar1It’s 2:45. I’ve already eaten my lunch, yet I am hungry. So, what do I do? I run to  CVS for something to tide me over until dinner time.  I am a BIG fan of afternoon snacks at the office, but today my snack stash was running low. So, I scoped out CVS hoping to find something moderately healthy. I wasn’t holding my breath. But, to my delighted surprise, I found my old friend the Larabar. Larabar and I go way back to the days when I lived in Charleston and was trying out the Sonoma Diet. This diet was all the rage sometime after South Beach fizzled out, and I must say it’s  a good diet and is actually fairly sustainable long term. Anyway, the whole point of the diet was to kick your sugar addiction and to replace sugar with protein, fiber, veggies and fruit. So, I turned to Larabars.  They are really simple, all natural, nothing fancy but oh-so-delicious snack bars. They come in flavors like Coco Mole, Cherry Pie, Cashew Cookie, Lemon, Coconut Cream Pie and so many more. They are small (good for travel) and somewhat dense (so they stick with you). The best part is that the ingredients are unbelievably simple. Each bar is made of fruit, nuts and spices and that’s it! Don’t believe me? I’ll prove it to you.

Pistashio Bar=dates, pistachios, cashews

Pecan Pie Bar= dates, pecans, almonds

Cherry Pie=dates, almonds, unsweetened cherries

I could go on like this all day, so hopefully you believe me. 1 bar has approx 200 cals and somewhere around 8 g of fat. <a href=”
