The generous makers of the GoodOnYa bar were nice enough to send Jessica and me a few samples of their products- Maple Dark Chocolate, Peanut Butter Honey and Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate bars. The bars are vegan, raw and 100% organic.
The maple dark chocolate bar was much better than what you’d expect to find in a vegan raw food bar, I must say I’m not a huge fan. To me, the taste was bitter and salty and the texture was grainy and oily. Each bite left a coating of oil inside my mouth. I figured it was probaby from the oils in the nuts and seeds used to make this bar, but when I reread the ingredients I noticed that cocao butter and olive oil were also used. The bar was are also high in fat and calories (270+ calories and 17 g of fat)- too heavy for a snack, but too light for a meal. However, on a more positive note, the bar was relatively low in sugar and lacked that over-sweetened flavor that so many bars have. Also, the vegan chocolate chips and fruit flecks inside were quite tasty.
I also sampled the peanut butter honey bar which I liked much better. It was still too oily, but had a great peanutty flavor with hits of vanilla and a nice crunch from the hemp, flax and sesame seeds. I would definitely eat this flavored bar again.
Overall, I think there will be people who love these bars and others that just aren’t convinced. For me, these bar would be best for occasional snacking.
