No more tears

Here’s a little trick I learned from one of my Chinese friends. She learned it from her mother.

When chopping onions, set them aside in a bowl of cold water. The water squelches the acid and odor that stings the eyes. I’ve tried a million tricks to remedy onion eye burn- I’ve even tried wearing sunglasses in the kitchen-  but nothing has worked until now. Thanks Jia!

Next time you are making a recipe involving onions, give this trick a try!

My husband and I hate onions. We taught our daughter to hate onions, until the age of 12. She was at a sleepover – they ordered a veggie pizza, and not to be rude, she ate a slice.

She came home and said “Mom, onions are awesome!” It was then and there that she realized it was us against the world – we are the only ones who hate them and the world loves them! :D

Now I have a yellow onion, white onion, scallions and chives in a special onion basket just for her – I’ll have to pass on your tip to her! :D
