Best Sushi in D.C.!

June 9, 2009

I know it’s a bold claim, but it’s so true! Last weekend, my boyfriend and I went out for sushi and decided to try Kotobuki. Kotobuki is known for fresh, delicious sushi that doesn’t break the bank.

Kotobuki is a cozy little restaurant nestled in the Palisades of Georgetown in D.C. It’s located on the second floor of an old row house and it is tiny inside! There are probably no more than 10 tables and 1 small sushi bar, and I would be surprised if it held more than 30 covers at at time. The service is friendly, but quick and efficient-which is a good thing because you stand in a steep, crowded staircase while waiting for a table.

We started with drinks! Sapporo for him and sake for me! The sake came in a uniquely square cup (which I learned was a traditional cup for measuring the rice from which sake is made).

We also munched on a burdock root and carrot salad. The salad was cool, light, refreshing and had a wonderful, light soy/vinegar flavor.

For the main meal we had a few rolls and some nigiri. The salmon was delicious, but the fatty tuna was to die for! It melts in your mouth like butter. The sushi was fresh, flavorful and the meal was exactly what we wanted. Plus, the entire bill with tax and tip was just under $50. Not bad for dinner and drinks for 2 and it was the perfect amount of food. I give Kotobuki a super food restaurant review!

Sushi Tarro is also a fierce competitor but it’s currently closed for renovations. Love Sushi Ko as well!

That is a bold statement! I’m die hard about Kaz Sushi along with Sushi Ko. But I’ll give this a try!
