Open City

May 27, 2009

I love outdoor dining! When I spent the summer in Europe, there are so many little cafes and restaurants where you can sit outside, relax, and enjoy a leisurely dinner. While there is nothing quite like that here in the U.S., Open City comes close! Open City is located right by the Woodley Park Zoo/Adams Morgan metro stop. Right off Connecticut Ave, the majority of the restaurant is outside, letting you enjoy the fresh air and good food!

This was my first time to Open City and I loved the variety of the menu including lots of vegetarian choices! The veggie burger sounded great but I was in the mood for a cheesy calzone. This one was stuffed with loads of spinach and artichoke hearts with just a tad of ricotta and mozzerella cheese. I loved this calzone because the outside was nice and browned and the inside was not insanely cheesy- just the right amount. AND the best part- I had half leftover for lunch the next day!

The calzone also came with a tasty mixed green salad with cranberries, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts, and zesty balsamic vinegarette! This was fresh and the perfect salad for me.

I also ordered a refreshing unsweetened pineapple infused green tea. I loved this- it wasn’t sweet but had the wonderful undertones of pineapple. Great for a hot day!

Open City also serves breakfast all day long (including a chai tea waffle that I want to try!) and has lots of pizza, sandwiches, homemade potato chips, salads, and much more! Definitely stop by Open City for a good time on a nice day and reasonably priced entrees (around $11-$15).

Z Burger of Tenlytown is a good stop for a good burger in the District too. The place prides itself on good service and since we’ve been going, it has not failed this expectation especially for a fast food spot. The milkshake list is massive and the onion rings are definitely something to talk about.
