I intended to post this way back when figs were in still in season. Per usual, things didn’t go as planned.
If, by chance, you happen to find a fresh fig or two at your grocery store, please make this for breakfast. It’s divine. It’s also a no brainer, which is what I often look for in a good breakfast dish.
Ingredients: (make as many as you like!)
Fresh baguette (white or wheat)
Fresh figs
Goat cheese
Fig jelly or jam
Directions: Slice the baguette into 1 to 2 inch pieces and toast lightly.
Slice the figs into coins.
Smear goat cheese on each crostini and layer with the fresh, sliced figs.
Top with a dollop of jelly and serve.
I like this dish best for breakfast, but you could serve it anytime as a snack or appetizer. If you don’t like goat cheese, sub in any soft cheese you like. If you can’t find fig jam, try apricot or peach.

Have you ever tried grilling the figs? Grilling brings out the natural sweetness of fruits and vegetables. I find that the problem with figs is that I can’t find them in small containers.
