Ginger and Lime Rickey

May 16, 2011

This post is dedicated to my dear friend Scott who stayed up late with me on Friday night, helping me concoct the tastiest possible signature drink for my upcoming wedding. I was on the hunt for something refreshing, slightly sweet, and mighty tasty.

Scott recommended recreating a beverage he tried at a local D.C. bar, something the bartender crafted based on the concept of a Gin Rickey. A Gin Rickey consists of gin, soda and lime on ice. What we created in my kitchen in the wee hours of the night (“wee hours” being 11pm) was so much better. I’m getting thirsty just thinking about it.

Over ice, pour one part gin and two parts ginger ale. I recommend spicy Blenheim ginger ale for flavor and zip.

Then add a dash or two of bitters.

Do not skip this step! Just a drop of bitters goes a very long way. It gives the drink extra depth and spice- sort of like baking with cinnamon. Good stuff. Not to be underestimated.

Next, add about half a lime. Of course, a bit more never hurts.

Mix well and sip.

Ahhh. Refreshing. Nothing says summer like ice cold ginger ale and lime.

In the end, I’m still undecided on the signature drink for the wedding. This Ginger Rickey was delicious, but not everyone is a huge fan of gin (including yours truly). If you have wedding cocktail suggestions, I’d love to read them in the comments below!

Very good blog you have here but I was wanting to know if you knew of any forums that cover the same topics discussed in this article?
I’d really like to be a part of group where I can get suggestions from other experienced people that share the same interest.
If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks!

Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a twenty five foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

Playing free games is definitely exciting as teens often find themselves in groups visiting cybercafes and enjoying new online games they discover together.

Video game cheats, on the other hand, are often cryptic one or two liners like “Enter xx312 in the password field.

That sounds terrific!

You should try Hedricks Gin. It doesn’t taste very “Gin-like.” It’s different, it has the taste of rose petal, juniper and cucumbers.

Ooooh, that sounds lovely! Thank you for the tip!

I appreciate the fact that I will be able to drink many of these by the pool while telling people it’s iced tea. All fun without the judgment!

LOL! Great idea!

So unbelievably fresh and gorgeous. I love it! Make me one (or four)?

Jen @ Keepitsimplefoods May 17, 2011 at 11:13 am

You got it! ;)

This is definitely the currently leader in the race to be my favorite drink of Summer ’11. It’s like a Dark and Stormy with bonus fun flavors (juniper from the gin and the bitters).

Jen @ Keepitsimplefoods May 17, 2011 at 11:14 am

I know! I just wish I liked Gin a bit more. Maybe a few more drinks will persuade me?
